A quick stop in Lisbon for the 16-year-old activist

The environmental activist Greta Thunberg will arrive this Tuesday morning in Lisbon after sailing across the Atlantic. Upon arrival, the young activist will be welcomed by the Mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, and a press conference will be held on site, announced the ZERO Association, Sustainable Earth System Association.

Greta Thunberg was also invited to attend a session of the Assembly of the Republic, but she has not yet confirmed her presence. Unofficial information recently revealed that the young Swede would not go to the Portuguese Parliament.

Anticipating this possibility, José Maria Cardoso, chairman of the parliamentary committee on the environment, energy and spatial planning and member of the Bloco de Esquerda, said Saturday that he would propose to the commission to go to the port of Lisbon to host the Swedish activist during his short stay in Portugal. Indeed, Greta Thunberg has planned to stay 24 hours in the Portuguese capital.

A beautiful advertisement for the "Green Capital of Europe" 2020

Lisbon has been chosen as the green capital of Europe for 2020. The arrival of Greta Thunberg in the Portuguese capital provides free publicity for the municipality struggling to hide its bad reputation in transport and garbage collection for example. The COP25, which will be held from 2 to 13 December, was urgently transferred to Madrid on 1 November, following the announcement by Chile that it will not be able to organize the meeting because of a social protest movement without previous in the country.

The transfer was proposed by the head of the Spanish Socialist Government, Pedro Sánchez, to "guarantee" the meeting, despite the enormous logistical challenge involved: to prepare in one month an event bringing together 25,000 participants from around 200 countries, diplomats, NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and scientists.

The Climate Change Summit is held each year in a different region of the world. This time, it was organized in Latin America after its last meeting in Eastern Europe, more precisely in Poland.
