4 Portuguese districts under yellow alert

A yellow alert is issued by the IPMA whenever there are risk situations for certain activities depending on the weather situation. According to the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the districts of Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda and Castelo Branco are now under yellow warning due to the strong wind.

These four districts will be under yellow alert until 12:00 noon today due to the forecast of moderate to strong north / northeast wind, with sometimes gusts up to 80 kilometers per hour, reaching 110 kilometers per hour in the Highlands.

The yellow alert is issued by the IPMA when it judges that there is a danger in carrying out outdoor activities.

On the continent, the IPMA forecasts a cloudy or clear sky, with periods of greater cloudiness in certain parts of the interior, increasing in the afternoon.

The possibility of light and scattered showers is also expected, especially from the afternoon in the interior regions and in the Algarve.

The forecast also indicates moderate to strong east / northeast winds, blowing hard, with gusts up to 80 km / h, in the highlands, frost formation in sheltered places, especially in the in the northern and central regions and a slight increase in maximum temperature.

The minimum temperatures on the continent will vary between -2 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) and 7 (in Aveiro and Lisbon) and the maximum between 6 (in Guarda) and 16 (in Faro, Santarém, Porto and Braga).

The passage of the Glória depression wreaked havoc in Coimbra on Monday. The strong wind tore off the roof of a building, causing damage to the neighboring building and several cars.

There is no trace of injuries in the mid-morning accident. The Civil Protection recorded 30 cases of falling structures and 150 falling trees in the district of Coimbra.
