Storm Barbara: all of Continental Portugal under orange weather alert, 130 km/h expected

The IPMA (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere) has issued an orange alert bulletin for the whole of mainland Portugal, due to the heavy rains and wind that will hit the country with the arrival of storm Barbara. The gusts will reach 130 km / h and encourage the authorities to call for caution. Lisbob, the expatriate assistant, tells you all about this orange weather alert in Portugal due to storm Barbara.

Due to the effects of the depression the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) announced that the districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco , Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under yellow alert due to the strong wind, from 12:00 to 21:00 this Monday, October 19. Gusts of 130 km / h are expected in the north of the country.

To this wind alert, IPMA adds an orange alert also due to the rain, sometimes heavy and persistent, expected from 3:00 p.m. in most Portuguese districts.

The districts of Viana do Castelo Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Viseu and Guarda are under orange warning due to the forecast of periods of heavy rain (between 9 p.m. today and 6 a.m. on Friday).

Thus, the districts of Viseu, Évora, Porto, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga are with a yellow warning for heavy and persistent rains between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday.

The Faro district will be the only one of the 18 mainland districts to also have a yellow warning for heavy swells, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The yellow alert is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation. Storm Barbara will make its effects felt from Monday afternoon until Tuesday at the end of the day.
